The works of Søren Søndergaard were through the 1980’s an extension of postwar international abstract expressionism, influenced by artists such as Asger Jorn, Karel Appel, Archile Gorky and Willem de Kooning. Also the Nordic figurative expressionists, i.e. Edvard Munch and Jens Søndergaard, were influential. Today S. works in a figurative manner, among others inspired by Goya and Edward Hopper… and their exposure of a meaningless civilization.
